A Mountain of Anime News Dropped During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays present a wealth of pastimes far superior than scanning the updates: opening presents, feasting on holiday treats, and employing meditation skills to avoid snapping at loved ones. I hope you managed to accomplish all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many exciting news items surfaced over the festive period, and if you didn't see some of them, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Will Continue (Come 2027)
Truly the most shocking revelation, the notorious troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop further production. The show will come back with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have called it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a positive development. Yet, the main art for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, at this point, they must be trolling the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now the community is ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been airing for years, and season 6 was a further outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will almost certainly premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
A further studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two
Immediately following the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete air date has not been disclosed yet.
